This "Covidchella" illustration is for The New York Times online article "Coachella plans to return with no masks or vaccines required" by Alyssa Lukpat. The illustration features the scenic hills and palm trees of Coachella's Californian desert setting, as well as a trio of friends each dressed in fashion statement destined for the festival. Tropes relating back to Covid are visible throughout their outfits, as seen in the sign and the mask- bracelet. In an ironic twist, this piece also references the Black Plague's "pockets full of posies" and includes a Plague Doctor mask.
