This animated illustration is intended to show how editorial illustrations can add impact to a story. "A Fishy Invasion" is based on the article "A fishy invasion: Koi fish, smallmouth bass infest local reservoirs and ponds " by Ammon Teare. The article describes how people are unintentionally destroying entire water ecosystems when they release their koi fish into local ponds and streams. It's almost as if koi fish have become a fad, where people are obsessed with them but very quickly lose interest and just discard them. Hence, my animated illustration starts off with only beautiful koi in the frame, but as the frame zooms out we see the whole picture– that as the koi live, many native species float dead at the surface.
